Open a full analytics dashboard and you will find four hundred metrics, of which roughly five matter to a business owner. The rest is weather. Here are the five, what each one means, and the action each one triggers.

1. Visitors, and where they come from

Total visits tell you if anyone is arriving; the source split (search, social, direct, referral) tells you which marketing is working. Search traffic growing means your SEO is compounding. Everything coming from one source means one algorithm change could starve you; that is a diversification warning, not a victory.

2. Conversions: the number that pays rent

Calls tapped, forms sent, bookings made, WhatsApp chats started. This is the website's actual job. Track it monthly against visitors to get your conversion rate; traffic rising while conversions stay flat means a conversion problem, and more marketing would just amplify the leak.

3. Top pages, 4. speed, 5. mobile share

Top pages show what visitors actually want, and often reveal a quietly popular page worth expanding. Speed is checked in thirty seconds and silently taxes everything when it slips. Mobile share is usually a supermajority, which makes the phone experience the real experience; test it monthly yourself.

Make it a ritual

Fifteen minutes, first Monday of the month, same five numbers in a note. Trends beat snapshots: three months of drifting conversions is a signal, one weird week is noise. Every site we build ships with analytics configured around these five, and care plan reports translate them into plain English.
